Frontliners Health Insurance Program (FLIP)

The Covid 19 pandemic exposed the deep-rooted vulnerabilities of our institutions and systems of public health. Despite these challenges, workers of grassroot civil society organisations (CSOs) across the country played a critical role in delivering essential healthcare services to communities in remote and hazardous locations. They worked fearlessly and tirelessly in urban and rural centres to deliver essential services, including health services, often putting their own lives at risk. Many socially committed lives were lost and many more suffered irreparable losses. Even with the best of intentions in mind, many of the grassroot organisations they worked for were unable to support these workers in their time of need or their families in future given their financial constraints.

At National Foundation for India (NFI), we are much too aware of the financial challenges many CSOs face, especially within the constraints of funding cycles, in reallocating their funds to support their workers during exigencies, especially of health. To address of some of these, we have launched a health insurance initiative called the Frontliners Health Insurance Program (FLIP) in partnership with Oriental Insurance Company.

FLIP is a comprehensive group health insurance program designed to support the health and safety needs of frontline workers in CSOs. FLIP provides coverage for medical emergencies and accidents, including coverage for first two pregnancies. It is designed for CSO workers who devote their lives to serving the most marginalized communities.

NFI is committed to collaborating with grassroot organizations serving marginalised communities in urban and rural centres to bolster their capacity to secure funding for extending this program at a reasonable cost to their frontline workers to ensure a stronger and healthier workforce in the sector, free from the uncertainties of the burden of the prohibitive costs of healthcare.
